DORMAN, HARVEY, MICHAEL, LUNGER, APPLEBEE, ECHEVARRIA & CARD ALL SHOWCASE STATELINE VICTORIES!

June 11, 2023  |  by Marc Hoegerl

Busti, NY (June 10, 2023) by Marc Hoegerl: Scott’s New Stateline Speedway was once again blessed with beautiful weather, and another Saturday evening of seven divisions of action-packed racing.

Eldred, PA’s Zain Harvey would bring home his first ever Stateline RUSH Pro Mod win. Andy Michael used some luck to bring home win #2 of the year in the RUSH Crate Late Models. Dennis Lunger, no stranger to victory lane, came home the winner in the UMP Modifieds. Bob Dorman picked up an emotional win in the Super Lates, recording his first ever Stateline victory. Shane Applebee led the pack for his 2nd Stateline win of 23’. A new face sat in victory lane, as Stockton NY’s, Domingo Echevarria, came home victorious in the Challenger main and Ryan Card won his 2nd of the season in the SHARP Mini Late Models.

The RUSH Pro Mods would be the first division to hit the surface. This one had upset written all over it. Dark Horse, Zain Harvey would show no mercy, upsetting a stellar field of 21 RUSH Pro Mods, to claim his first ever Stateline A-Main. Harvey had his hands full with wheelmen, Dennis Lunger, and the previous two weeks’ winner Steve Dixon, for a good portion of the event, but the poised Harvey would not be denied, winning by an easy margin over 12th place starter Steve Dixon. John Woodward in his best run of 23’ would end up 3rd, as Tyler Oakes and Vaughn Nystrom would complete the top 5.

Next class to take Spanky Hall’s green banner, would be the loaded field of RUSH Crate Late Models. May 27th winner, Andy Michael, would jump out front for the first 4 laps, until Frewsburg’s Jason Genco would easily grab the lead on lap 5. Genco would hold the point for the next 2 laps, until he would spin after making contact with a lapped car, sending Genco to the tail. It was all Michael after that, as the Allegany, NY native would go on to win his 2nd Stateline RUSH Crate Late Model Feature of the season. David Parker was 2nd, Jeff Hoffman 3rd, Randy Hall 4th and Matt Sipes completed your top 5.

24 four barrel mounts would make up the field in the UMP Modified Feature. “The Albion Assassin” Dennis Lunger would grad the lead at the outset, to go on to record his first Stateline UMP Modified win of the season. Steve Rex, with his best run to date, would end up 2nd. Troy Johnson, Dan Sasso and Conneaut’s Bud Watson would round out the top 5.

Next up would be the caution marred 15 lap SHARP Mini Late Models Feature. Ryan Card would get his 2nd win of 23’ as the race was called for exceeding the time limit on lap 11. Terry Mealy, Jack Black, Nate Morrison and Dale Haines would be your top 5.

Next to hit the 1/3 mile semi-banked clay oval, would be the ground pounding Super Late Models. Jason Genco would grab the lead at the drop of the green, leading the first 10 laps, until Stockton NY’s Bob Dorman would finally make it stick, muscling the lead from Genco on lap 11. Dorman would hold that point for the next 2 laps, until Genco would once again move out front, only to see the persistent Dorman regain his momentum, powering his way around Genco for the event’s 4th lead change, on lap 15. Genco would lead for the final time on lap 16, as the determined  Dorman would not be denied, screaming by Genco on lap 17, and going the remaining distance to pick up his first ever Stateline Super Late Model triumph. Genco would settle for 2nd, Greg Oakes would end up 3rd, 7th place starter Darrell Bossard was 4th and Spring Creek’s Ryan Scott rounded out the events top 5.

Shane Applebee would bring home an impressive win in the Pro Stock Division, recording Stateline win #2 of 2023. Applebee had his hands full with Joe Stajnrajh most of the event. In the late stages, the Oil City, PA traveler kept trying to make the outside work, but the sharp looking #30 would hold his line for another candid moment, in Stateline’s Victory Circle. Stajnrajh, Jason Covey, Gary Fisher Jr, and last week’s winner Jason Black, rounded out the top 5.

In the nightcap, Domingo Echevarria would grab the lead from Nicholas Reed on lap 2 and hold off a mid-race challenge from former champion Chris Horton, to pick up his first ever Stateline win, in the always entertaining Challengers. Horton would settle for 2nd, two-time winner in 23’, John Mease was 3rd. Nicholas Reed, and Rick Feeley would complete the top 5.
