Proper wins Challenger special!

August 28, 2016

Blair, Bossard, Scott, Carlson, Shagla, Kibbe all repeat!

Busti, NY (August 27, 2016): Autograph night at Stateline Speedway, a fan favorite over the track’s 60 year history, was held on Saturday with sponsorship by the Himes Auction Company with the Bailey’s Towing & Recovery Super Challengers being the featured class. Every class had winners who have scored multiple feature wins this season. In addition to Proper scoring his ninth win of the season, David Scott, Justin Carlson, and Dave Shagla Jr each scored their seventh feature wins of the season while Jim Kibbe got number six, Darrell Bossard got number four, and Max Blair got number three.

Three time winner Jason Covey started the Rusted Nutz ProMod feature from the pole with Jeramy Williams alongside, then led the way over Williams, six time winner Justin Carlson, single winner Scott Gurdak, and points leader Kelly Frederes, a two time winner. At the end of six laps Carlson was second and closing the gap on the leader, catching him at nine complete as the leaders came into lapped traffic. With twelve complete Kevin Ruhlman, third running Williams, and fourth place Frederes tangled in turn four, slowing the race under caution. At the end on one lap back green Carlson edged ahead of Covey at the stripe, then went on to his seventh win of the season. Covey settled for second over Gurdak with Bill Silvis fourth, and Dennis Hagg Jr fifth.

Andy Boozel and Wyatt Scott brought the Shults Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Models to green with Boozel leading the way and Darrell Bossard coming to second at two laps compete. Rob Pietz had an apparent major mechanical failure, laying parts on the front straight and turns one and two at three complete, ending his night and slowing the race for the first time. At five laps in the order at the front was Boozel, Bossard, Ryan Scott, Wyatt Scott, and defending champion Jason Genco. Bossard looked to the inside of the leader at eight complete but was unable to compete the pass until a lap later. Wyatt Scott nosed ahead of Genco at five laps left but Genco was back to fourth at seventeen laps. Bossard went on to his fourth win of the season by half a straight over Boozel with Ryan Scott third. Genco wound up winning the battle for fourth with Wyatt Scott settling for fifth.

Points leader and five time winner Jim Kibbe started the Himes Auction Super Sportsmen feature from the pole with Michael Kosinski alongside but Kibbe faltered on the start, necessitating a complete restart. This time Kibbe shot to the immediate lead with Kosinski falling to second. Defending champion Dan Nocero Jr ran third over the opening laps with Steve Longo and Matt Kosinski filling out the top five. At halfway the front five remained the same with Kibbe holding a ten length lead. At eleven laps in Mike Genco and Tommy Kosinski tangled in turn four, slowing the race under caution. After green Kibbe held on for his sixth win of the season with Nocero coming to second with three to go. Michael Kosinski wound up third with Longo fourth, and Matt Kosinski fifth.

Max Blair and Dutch Davies brought the Plyler Overhead Door of Jamestown Super Late Model feature to green with Blair grabbing the immediate lead, looking for his third win of the season. At four laps compete Doug Eck took over third from Brent Rhebergen  with Dave Scott coming to fourth a lap later. At five laps Damian Bidwell slowed, with caution showing for him. He headed pitside but returned before green was again flying. On the restart Chris Hackett, a winner earlier in the season spun in turn two, negating the start. Blair again led on green with Eck coming to second Eck began trailing heavy smoke at the end of seven but continued to run in the runner-up spot. At halfway the order at the front was Blair, Eck, still smoking bad, Davies, Scott, and Rhebergen. At sixteen laps Blair caught lapped traffic just as yellow was again shown when Hackett spun again, this time in turn four. When the race resumed Jake Finnerty shot to fourth and then tried getting by Davies but was unsuccessful. Blair then began pulling away, going on to his third win of the season with Eck’s engine somehow staying together long enough to wind up second. Davies was third with Finnerty fourth, and Rhebergen filling out the top five.

Andy Proper took over the lead in the Bailey's Towing & Recovery special 20-lap feature after early leader Matt Bryant started slowing with apparent mechanical ails. Pete Volpe ran second with Brandon Huffman third, John Zeleznick fourth, and Mike Riche fifth.

Al Brewer and Vic Vena brought the Sugar Grove Beverage E-Mods to green wi Vena leading at the end of one and Steve Rex coming to second. Rex was ahead by a nose at the end of two with .007 second lead. Then Vena went back to the lead on the next lap. Rex spun in turn four at four laps in, leaving Joel Watson now second and Dan Sasso third. Dave Scott was fourth at this point with points leader Butch Southwell fifth. Sasso spun from third in turn four at seven complete. For the green it was now Vena, Watson, Scott, Southwell, and Dan Davies. The restart was called back with debris on the front straight. Sasso again spun after green, this time in turn four with the top five still the same. On the restart Watson was penalized a row for “jumping” the start, putting Davies up to third. At halfway it was Vena over Scott, Southwell, Brewer, and Davies. Watson was back to fifth a lap later and at twelve Vena and Scott were even at the line. Scott had a four length lead at the end of thirteen as yellow was shown for Dan Davies, spun in turn two. With seven to go it was Scott, Vena, Southwell, Brewer, and Watson. With five to go Watson was back up to third behind Scott and Southwell. At the checkers it was Scott going to Victory Lane for the seventh time this season over Southwell, Watson, Brewer, and Vena.

Brad Church and points leader Dave Shagla Jr paced the Fox’s Pizza Street Stocks with six time winner Shagla grabbing the lead but only two laps were complete when four cars, including Jason Black, Bill Best, Bill Reeves, and Deven Dudenhoeffer, piled up in turn four, slowing the race the first time. Shagla brought the field back to green with Church second, Scott Delahoy third, and Tony Marotto fourth. Shagla continued to dominate. At five complete Deven Dudenhoeffer and Chad Clement got together in turn two with both coming to a halt on the back straight. Clement was unable to rejoin the race. On the first lap back to green Brandon Groters got out of shape, bouncing off the wall on the back chute, with several cars getting involved including Dudenhoeffer, Kevin Golden, Marotto, Delahoy, Brian Crandall, and Gary Fisher. Groters headed pitside but rejoined the event before green again flew. On the first lap after green several cars made contact with the back straight wall, none crashing but leaving parts on the racing surface. Dudenhoeffer again spun in turn four at five complete. Only one lap was scored under green before Kevin Golden spun in turn three and Brandon Groters in two, again slowing the race. With nine laps complete Scott Delahoy and Paul Nelson spun in turn two, yet again slowing the race. With the time limit reached the race was called complete with Shagla being awarded his seventh win.
