Greg Oakes back to Stateline Victory Lane! Gurdak, Hess, Lunger, Blood, and Heineman also post wins!

June 14, 2021

Busti, NY (June 12, 2021): Temperatures in the eighties under clear skies greeted fans entering Stateline Speedway for the RUSH Pro Mod Manufacturer's night. Pro Mod drivers were awarded with valuable prizes prior to the night's racing activities. At the end of the night Greg Oakes was back in the Super Late Model Winner's Circle after a long absence, Scott Gurdak was in the RUSH Late Model Victory Lane for the second time in a row, Dave Hess won another UMP Modified feature, Don Blood won his first-ever Penn-Ohio Pro Stock feature, Dennis Lunger added yet another win to his RUSH Pro Mod collection, and Holden Heineman capped off his evening with another Challenger win.

The UMP Modifieds started with Steve Rex and Dennis Lunger up front. Lunger led Rex, Zach Johnson, Troy Johnson, and Michael McGee through lap one. Dave Hess worked his way up to fifth from twelfth on the grid by lap five. At nine laps Jared Spaulding and Mitchell Rex spun in turns three and four. The halfway order at the front was Lunger, Zach Johnson, Steve Rex, Hess, and Troy Johnson. Hess was third at thirteen with Cale Crocker fourth and Steve Rex fifth. Hess was second at lap fourteen. At lap fifteen Justin Carlson spun in turns three and four. With three laps left the lead battle was near even between Lunger and Hess with Lunger again leading by a length at two to go. His lead was only a half car-length at the white flag with Hess completing the pass on the final lap. Hess took the win over Lunger, Crocker, Zach Johnson, and Rex.

David Pangrazio and Chad Clement were the front row for the RUSH Late Model feature with Pangrazio leading lap one over third-starting Darrell Bossard, sixth-starting Scott Gurdak, Clement, and Khole Wanzer. Yellow at the end of one for D J Krug, stopped on the infield. At green Gurdak wasted no time getting to the front, taking it on the back straight of lap two. At three laps David Parker spun in turn four. At five laps it was Gurdak leading Bossard, Pangrazio, Andy Boozel, and former champion Jason Genco. Brothers Steve and Rodney Houser spun together in turn four at lap five. Booze was third at lap six but Pangrazio had it at seven. John Woodward spun at lap seven in turn three. At fourteen laps Gurdak and Bossard were side by side for the lead but Gurdak turned up the wick and opened a two length lead at five to go while in heavy traffic with Darrin Waldron right in the way of the lead battle. Both Gurdak and Bossard both got by him safely with Gurdak winning over Bossard, Pangrazio, Genco, and Boozel.

The Penn-Ohio Pro Stocks were led to green by Tanner Ramsey and Donald Blood but in turn two, yellow was necessary when David Tower and Brian Graham got into the wall although both were able to drive away and continued the race. Blood led lap one while Ramsey, David Baker, Joe Stajnrajh, and Gary Fisher filled out the top five. Stajnrajh was third at two laps with Fisher fourth. Then Stajnrajh was next to Ramsey for second at lap five, holding the runner-up position at six. Yellow then flew for Matt Sampson, spun in turn four. He headed to the pit. Under the yellow, points leader and defending champion John Boardman headed pit side with a flat right rear tire. Fisher got to second at lap seven. At halfway it was Blood leading Fischer, Stajnrajh, Jason Covey, and Ramsey. The front five remained the same through the event, giving Blood his first-ever feature win.

The Super Late Models were brought to Spanky Hall's green flags by Wyatt Scott and Greg Oakes with Oakes taking the lead in lap one over Scott, Chris Hackett, Steve Kania, and Darrell Bossard. Jake Finnerty took over fifth at lap three and was fighting with Kania for fourth at lap four. At lap eight Finnerty had displaced Hackett for third. Yellow flew at lap ten for David Scott, stopped in turn four. Wyatt Scott was the leader at turn three on lap eleven, but Oakes again held it at the stripe. Khole Wanzer then spun, collecting Easton Hedman in the process. Hackett and Wyatt Scott were near even at the end of thirteen. That battle ended when Scott spun in turn one. At  fourteen laps it was now Oakes, Hackett, Hess, Finnerty, and Kania. For most of laps fourteen and fifteen Hackett and Hess were engaged in a side-by-side duel for second with Hess finally securing the spot at lap sixteen. Kania and Finnerty were likewise fighting over fourth at seventeen with Finnerty claiming it at eighteen laps, then getting third at nineteen. The finish had the top five as Oakes, Hess, Finnerty, Hackett, and Kania.

Jarrod Silvis and Victor Earle Jr were the front row for the RUSH Pro Mod feature, remaining side by side through lap one. Yellow flew at lap two when Michael Johnstone and Tyler Sutton spun in turn two. Earle was the leader for the restart over Silvis, Steve Dixon, Adam Ashcroft, and Dennis Lunger. Dixon led at the end of two over a side by side run for second between Lunger and Earle with Ashcroft fourth and Silvis fifth. Ashcroft and Silvis were even for third at three laps with Ashcroft holding the spot at four. Yellow in lap five for Michael Johnstone, spun in turn four, then another on the green, this one for Ryan Howard, spun in turn one. At halfway it was Dixon leading Lunger, Ashcroft, and Silvis, with Carl Irons fighting with Earle for fifth. Then Johnstone spun in turn one. On green Ashcroft came to second at eleven laps before yellow again flew at twelve for Brian Mohawk, spun in turn three. With five to go Lunger and Ashcroft were even for the lead, with Dixon, Irons, and Silvis following. Wayne Mohawk headed to the infield at lap sixteen but was unable to get far enough off the track for racing to continue safely. Earle was back up to fifth at lap seventeen when Greg Johnson spun in two. On the green Dixon, running third, spun in traffic, collecting Cody Stronghart. At the checkers, Lunger had picked up another win with Ashcroft second over Irons, Earle, and Silvis.

The final event of the race night was for the Challengers with scheduled pole-sitter Cory Brown unable to start, moving Chris Horton to the front with Pete Volpe to his right. The two were even at the end of lap one with John Mease third, Holden Heineman fourth, and Brandon Huffman fifth. Volpe was leading at two laps with Heineman now third, over Mease and Brandon Huffman. At lap three Horton had pulled next to Volpe with Heineman appearing to gain on both. Volpe was the leader at four laps but at seven laps Heineman came to the lead party and took it in turn two as Horton erupted in a cloud of smoke and headed to the infield with yellow being shown for Phillip Birt, spun in turn one and needing a tow to the pit. At eight laps Heineman led Huffman, Volpe, Mease, and Patrick Todd Hanlon. Hanlon was fourth at nine laps. Heineman and Huffman were even at the line at lap ten but Heineman had it to himself at the white flag, going on to the win over Huffman, Volpe, Hanlon, and Mease.
