Stateline Speedway celebrates sixty years of racing Thursday night!

July 20, 2016

Busti, NY(July 20, 2016): Sixty years ago this past spring five young men from Sugar Grove, PA had a dream to build a first class stock car racing facility on Kortwright Road in Busti, NY. Stateline Speedway Presented by LiteHouse Auto was the result of that dream sixty years ago.  It took  a lot of hard work but the team of Leonard Briggs, Lloyd Williams, Marv Thorpe, Don Frank, and Jerry Frank saw their dream materialize and the track was ready for opening night on July 7, 1956.

Unfortunately Mother Nature wasn't ready, nor was she ready the following week. However, the group persevered and the track finally saw its first green flag thrown by Thorpe and announced by Williams, on July 21. Warren, PA’s Emory Mahan won that contest over Bradford, PA’s Ken Mains. Wellsville, NY’s Dean Layfield was third. Racing has continued over the last 60 years and the milestone will be celebrated Thursday, July 21 with a 60-lap feature event for the Super Late Models, the premier class of racers over all those years. As racing at Stateline enters its seventh decade, the cars and stars of yesteryear will be celebrated all through the evening with interviews where available, a special souvenir book, stories of the “glory years” and of course, racing in three classes.

The Overhead Door of Jamestown Super Late Models will be the featured event, holding time trials, heat races, and B-mains (if necessary) to set the field for the sixty lap affair that will pay $10,060 to the winner.

On the race card along with the Super Late Models are the Sugar Grove Beverage E-Mods, racing 20-laps for a $700 winner’s purse.  Fox’s Pizza Den Street Stocks will also race 20-laps for $500 to win. Lineups will be determined as they are on regular race nights. No points will be awarded for racing in this special event.

Pit gates will open at 4 PM with fan gates at 5 PM. Absolutely no admission to fan area prior to 5 PM. Tickets will be $20 general admission for adults, seniors, veterans, and college students with ID $10, Kids 6-16 $10, five and under free. Pit admission is limited to over fourteen years old and is $40 per person. Camping is available free of charge with no hook up beginning Wednesday afternoon at 3PM and may remain until normal checkout.
